Ingredients

  • 1 cups simple syrup made from 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar *See note
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 2 cups cold water
  • 1 cup vodka regular or lemon-flavored both work well
  • cup orange liqueur such as Cointreau or Grand Marnier or Triple Sec
  • sugar for lining the edges of the glass
  • lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

  • In a pitcher, punchbowl, or drink dispenser, mix all the liquid ingredients together stirring well. Chill well before serving.
  • To serve, frost some martini glasses with a sugar rim (run a lemon slice along the rim and dip the rim in sugar) and serve over crushed ice. Add a slice of lemon for garnish.

Notes

* One cup of water and one cup of sugar will yield approximately 1 1/2 cups of simple syrup. To make the syrup, in a saucepan over medium heat, whisk together the water and sugar until the sugar is dissolved. The syrup is ready when the solution changes from cloudy to clear and you will not be able to see any grains of sugar in the solution. I find it helps to constantly whisk or stir until the sugar is dissolved into the solution. Remove from the heat and cool
This simple syrup will keep in the fridge for up to a week, so feel free to make it ahead of time.
